Dossier: The role of Social Sciences in the public debate on race in Brazil

This thematic dossier aims to reflect on the challenges, tasks and new agenda for the public debate on race in the country and the role of Social Sciences in this scenario. We seek to highlight both the potential contributions of the field and related areas to this discussion, as well as the narrative disputes in hegemonic spaces of the cultural industry and social networks.

Among the topics that will be prioritized in this dossier are:

(i) The Quota Law and its impact on the public debate on race in Brazil;

(ii) The field of Social Sciences and the dilemma of rethinking its role: insertions and forms of dialogue in the public sphere;

(iii) The prominence of social networks and the emergence of analyses (associated with activism) produced outside the institutional field of Social Sciences;

(iv) Generational conflicts and disputes in the face of analyses of racial relations in the academic, civil society and governmental spheres;

(v) ​​The use of a new grammar of struggles fought in the public arena, among other changes, which diversified the field of discourse and analyses on race in Brazil.
