Objective: to analyze the mental health of elderly people in the pre- and post-COVID-19 pandemic period, promoting associations with attendance at therapy sessions, self-medication, and changes in daily habits. Method: a qualitative field study with a direct, randomized, non-intentional approach through semi-structured interviews, carried out online or in person at the Taguatinga campus of the Catholic University of Brasília. There was a questionnaire with objective and subjective questions about the proposed topic. The subsequent statistical analysis was carried out with the IRAMUTEQ software, using Chi-Square tests for the questionnaires, with Bardin’s content analysis. Results: 171 people took part in the research, with a prevalent age of 60 to 65 years; 70.2% were women, and 29.8% were men; 82.5% of the elderly said they had never attended therapy sessions before the pandemic, while only 17.5% said they had done so. 83% confirmed the medication utilization, while 17% denied the practice. Furthermore, 98.2% said they use technological devices daily, while only 1.75% didn't. Using the software, the interviews were divided into 5 classes: social isolation: loneliness and mental health; Changing daily habits; Use of technology during social isolation; Acceptance or fear of aging; Mental health related to the perception of death. Conclusion: With the research, it is possible to make comparisons between the mental health of the interviewees, drug utilization, attendance at therapy sessions, self-medication, and the changes in daily habits in a pre- and post-COVID-19 pandemic context.
