In the present article it is necessary to point out the importance of the orientation function in the production of knowledge and in the training of the researchers, pointing to the existing gap in the studies on this subject. The orientation of theses and dissertations is carried out, in most cases, by doctors who have undergone research activities at least during their master's and doctoral degrees. However, having received guidance and proposing to practice it, by itself does not guarantee the mastery of the processes, procedures and strategies that can successfully complete a thesis or dissertation. Much of this work involves reading and writing,
Written to ideas, experiences and readings, an activity for which we do not yet have a specific effective training. Putting into circulation and debate the successes and failures of the advisors is urgent and fundamental to qualify the academy.
