Chronotopology of smart images

This article takes up some fundamental notions of Gilbert Simondon’s philosophy to inquire about the chronotopological regimes that are related to the images produced by smart cameras. Smart cameras are systems of vision in which an algorithm operates in parallel to the image production, analyzing it. Recently the idea of “embedded image” has been used to describe the architecture of such devices. Our objective is to map the transformations in the spatial and temporal relations established by such images, as well as speculate about the possible political consequences associated with this chronotopological reordering. The contiguity of these images to the world and their agency circumscribed to the present time, unlike the classical model of the Renaissance perspective, allows us to claim a performative inflection in this regime of visuality.
