This research aimed at elaborating the Attitudes toward Adoption Scale (ATAS), gathering evidence of factorial validity and reliability. Two studies were carried out in the general population from João Pessoa (PB). Study 1 participants were 206 people, mostly female (60%) and single (65%), with a mean age of 32 years. They answered the ATAS and demographic questions. The items of this measure identified a trifactorial structure with Cronbach’s alphas higher than 0.70. Study 2 participants were 215 people, most of them female (51.6%) and single (48.4%), with a mean age of 33 years. The trifactorial solution was supported by confirmatory factor analysis, where Cronbach’s alpha higher than0.70. In conclusion, this instrument shows evidence of factorial
validity and reliability, supporting measuring attitudes toward adoption in the general population.
