The anticipatory grief puts the relatives in front of the necessity to articulate coping strategies, in the face of the demands in the Palliative Care. This qualitative study aimed characterize the family members' strategies for coping in the context of Palliative Care and anticipatory grief. There were realized interviews with 14 relatives of patients in Palliative Care. The data were analyzed based on Grounded Theory, with assistance of ATLAS.ti 7.5. The results indicated that the strategies for coping were crossed by the process marked by the meanings assigned to death, by the conversations about this, by the implications of the end-of-life process. Strategies for solving problems were observed, to overcome emotions, based on interpersonal relationships and religiosity/spirituality. Stands out the importance of the recognition such strategies and their expression, as indicators of anticipatory grief, in order to subsidize the interventions in the Palliative Care context.
