Abstract

The following paper aimed to research on the meaning attributions to the renal transplantation of the patients with Chronic Renal Failure (CRF) of a University Hospital in the Southern region. A qualitative approach has been applied and twelve people took part in the research. The instruments used were the semi-directed interview and autophotography. In order to proceed with data analysis, the content analysis technique has been applied, allowing four theme categories to be constructed: the anxiety of waiting, the conflicts before the donator, the expectations with regard to the change, and the life before and after the transplant. It was set that this possibility brings a series of psychic repercussions due to the fact that it is seen as something that restitutes life, even taking into consideration the fact that there is still a body care, with diets and medicines.
