The Insertion of the Psychologist in the Esf and the Health Paradigm Transition

This article discusses some understanding models about the binomial health-sickness and its applications in the Brazilian Single Health System (Sistema Único de Saúde). Therefore, a review on studies on the performance of Family Health Strategy teams is undertaken, highlighting the predominance of fragmented practices and a view about health as simply the absence of diseases, in spite of the precept of integrality advocated by the Brazilian Single Health System. The insertion of the psychologist in the public health as a participant in the family health teams is favourably argued given the understanding that such professional will be able to give an important contribution towards overcoming the hegemonic model of health by a more comprehensive and integrated model, which recognizes health as a multidimensional phenomenon, where biological, psychological and social aspects interact in the direction of a more holistic understanding of the health-disease process.Downloads
