Abstract

This editorial aims to reflect on the context and purpose with which the Teocomunicação dossier “youth and contemporaneity” was prepared. The context is the ecclesial reflection on youth promoted by the Synod of Bishops 2018 and by the Exhortation Christus vivit, and which received new challenges with the difficult reality raised by the Covid-19 pandemic. The purpose is the search for a fruitful dialogue between the generations, capable of promoting the integral human development of young people. As conditions for dialogue, the aim is to go out and meet the new generations, recognizing in each young person the dimension of the mystery that is sheltered there. The integral perspective of understanding the human person and, here, the young person, then presents itself as the conditio sine qua- non for the realization of this purpose, which also supposes the call for ecclesial and citizen participation of youth. Finally, the challenges of accompaniment of young people for the period following the pandemic are highlighted.
