Este artículo investiga la conexión entre modalidad y tiempo en dos maestros de arte parisinos activos en la primera mitad del siglo XIV, Juan Buridán (c.1290-c.1361) y Juan de Jandún (c.1286-c.1328). El objetivo es dilucidar su enfoque de la naturaleza de esta relación en un conjunto de textos poco explorados en los debates sobre la interpretación de las modalidades medievales, a saber, los comentarios al final del primer libro del De Caelo de Aristóteles. La interpretación de la relación entre lo que es “necesario” y lo que “siempre es” en este texto ha recibido interpretaciones divergentes sobre la controvertida asimilación de necesidad y omnitemporalidad en las concepciones premodernas de las modalidades. Analizando el debate en torno a los pasajes aristotélicos del De Caelo planteado por ambos filósofos pertenecientes al entorno de la Facultad de Letras de París, el artículo demuestra que dicha asimilación no fue consensuada. Contrastando los análisis de Jandun y Buridan, se concluye que aunque Buridan acomoda la necesidad temporal presupuesta en el De Caelo como una necesidad condicional, desarrolla una crítica de la validez general de los argumentos de Aristóteles relativos a las modalidades absolutas.
