Abstract

Research on the therapeutic process needs instruments able to assess the constructs under evaluation. The therapist’s technique and interventions have been regarded as a specific factor in the process, and their study demands valid and reliable instruments. The aim of this study was to develop the cross-cultural adaptation of the Comparative Psychotherapy Process Scale (CPPS) into Brazilian Portuguese, and to assess its reliability and evidence of validity. The content validity of the adapted version was examined, and the pilot study analyzed videotapes of 204 sessions from four child psychodynamic psychotherapies. Interrater reliability analyzes and validity analyzes, aiming at identifying evidence based on the internal structure (factor analysis and internal consistency analysis) and based on the relationships with other variables (convergent validity) were also performed. The adapted version showed excellent interrater reliability, convergent validity with the Child Psychotherapy Q-Set, and preliminary evidence of construct validity of one of the CPPS subscales.
