Abstract

Socioemotional skills (SCs) are a broad and multidimensional set of cognitive, behavioral, and social skills. Accessing them is essential to mapping the milestones of child development as well as identifying possible impairments experienced by children. This study presents a systematic review of the identification and description of psychological tools used to assess SCs in children. A sequential search was performed in four databases (PubMed, SciELO, BDTD, and LILACS). A total of 18 papers were included for a final review: 10 for construction and 8 for adaptation. The tools showed adequate indices of internal structure (validity and precision). In summary, this systematic review allows us to (1) add evidence to the instruments found in the literature and (2) help adapt and develop tools that present adequate psychometric indicators in different contexts of evaluation and intervention. Finally, this study also provides a greater understanding of CS.
